Psoriasis

Psoriasis affects not only the skin but also how you feel about yourself. For Indianapolis residents, flare-ups often appear in the winter when the air is dry and sunlight exposure is limited. AndHealth’s dermatology specialists identify your triggers and treat psoriasis from the inside out with biologic medications, topical therapies, and immune-modulating strategies that improve both appearance and comfort.

Atopic dermatitis icon
Atopic dermatitis (Eczema)

Atopic dermatitis causes intense itching, redness, and dryness that can disrupt sleep and concentration. For Indianapolis residents, flare-ups often increase during dry, heated winters & during pollen-heavy spring and fall months. The city’s humidity and air quality can affect sensitive skin. At AndHealth, we design personalized AD care plans that combine topical & systemic treatments with lifestyle & behavioral support.

Hidradenitis suppurativa icon

HS causes painful nodules, abscesses, and scarring that can make daily movement or social activities difficult. For people in Indianapolis, HS may worsen with heat, humidity, friction, and stress. AndHealth delivers effective care using biologic therapies, advanced wound management, and lifestyle support focused on minimizing triggers. Our goal is to help you feel free and comfortable in your own skin again.

Virtual video visits available for Indiana & Ohio residents

How a virtual dermatology visit works

We want you to feel as comfortable in an online appointment as you would in person. Here’s how a virtual appointment works.

You and your doctor will join a video call at a place most convenient to you - at home, work, your car, etc.

Choose somewhere quiet where you can speak freely, and where you have a good internet connection.

Your nearest Community Health Center can also provide a private room with a computer where you can join your appointment (reserved in advance).

+

Your dermatologist will ask you where you are experiencing symptoms.

They will ask you to show the affected skin on camera to confirm size, shape, location, inflammation and other factors.

If needed, your dermatologist will order blood work to get more information, as they would during an in-person exam.

+

When you are in a flare, or having a hard day, an online appointment can be much easier to join.

An online appointment saves you time from driving to an office, sitting in a waiting room, and then seeing your provider.

An online appointment should feel as unrushed and thorough as in person.

We want you to always feel that you can ask all of your questions, report on how you've been feeling, and help us create or modify the best treatment plan for you.

Personalized treatments & care unique to Indianapolis

Comprehensive treatment plans for Indianapolis dermatology patients

Indianapolis experiences every season to the fullest. Winter’s dryness and spring’s pollen can aggravate eczema and psoriasis, while summer’s humidity can increase HS flare-ups. AndHealth uses climate-aware care planning so your treatment adapts to local environmental changes.

Our care combines medical dermatology with lifestyle optimization. Your team includes your dermatologist, pharmacist, health coach, and patient navigator. Together, they coordinate your medications, skincare routine, stress-management plan, and nutrition guidance.

AndHealth also collaborates with leading health systems nearby for specialized testing, referrals, and research access when needed. Whether through virtual visits or in-person support, your skin health stays connected and coordinated.

Common PsO, AD, HS symptoms better & worse in Indianapolis

Dermatology symptoms made better in Indianapolis

In moderate spring and fall conditions, these seasons often bring balanced humidity that supports natural skin hydration and healing. Indianapolis residents benefit from strong healthcare networks and advanced dermatology resources, which support faster symptom relief.

Dermatology symptoms more challenging in Indianapolis

Central heating and low humidity can dry out the skin, increasing itching and irritation for eczema and psoriasis patients.

HS flare-ups often increase in the summer months when sweat and friction are more common.
Air pollutants and allergens can irritate sensitive skin and worsen inflammation, particularly downtown and near major highways.

Your AndHealth care team helps you recognize these seasonal patterns and adjust treatment, hydration, and skincare strategies for stability and relief all year long.

How common is a PsO, AD or HS diagnosis for people in Indianapolis?

Psoriasis diagnosis rates in Indianapolis

With an estimated 3% prevalence, about 25,000 to 30,000 adults in the Indianapolis area may have psoriasis. Many experience flares linked to stress, infections, and dry indoor air during the winter months.

Atopic dermatitis diagnosis rates in Indianapolis

Approximately 100,000 residents in central Indiana experience eczema symptoms annually. Fluctuating humidity, allergens, and pollution contribute to the condition’s persistence.

Hidradenitis suppurativa diagnosis rates in Indianapolis

About 10,000 to 12,000 Indianapolis residents may have HS, though many remain undiagnosed. Early recognition through AndHealth helps reduce the impact of pain, scarring, and infection risk.

Unique geographic factors for PsO, AD and HS in Indianapolis

Indianapolis’ geography, weather, and environment uniquely influence skin health.

Air quality

Indianapolis occasionally experiences elevated ozone and particulate matter levels, particularly in summer. These pollutants can inflame sensitive skin and worsen eczema and psoriasis.

Clean water

Municipal water in central Indiana tends to be moderately hard, which may weaken the skin barrier and worsen dryness. Your AndHealth dermatologist can recommend barrier-supportive cleansers and moisturizers.

Seasonal changes

The sharp contrast between hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters creates challenges for skin hydration and inflammation control.

Get educated: health fairs or health events in Indianapolis

Indianapolis hosts several community and statewide events focused on health and wellness. The Indiana Health Fair at the Indiana State Fairgrounds offers free screenings, wellness exhibits, and public education on chronic conditions.

The Indy Soiree (annually in November) event by the National Psoriasis Foundation connects local patients and families for education and advocacy.

These gatherings give residents a chance to meet experts, learn about skin health, and access resources that complement AndHealth’s care.

Get support: PsO, AD and HS chronic condition community groups & patient groups in Indianapolis

You don’t have to manage your psoriasis, atopic dermatitis or hidradenitis suppurativa skin condition alone. These resources help you stay connected, informed and supported throughout your chronic skin condition journey.

In-person community groups

The National Psoriasis Foundation Indianapolis Chapter organizes the Team NPF Walk and local meetups for patients and families.

Online community groups

The National Psoriasis Foundation Online Community connects Indiana residents for mentorship and live events. The Eczema Expo, in a different city each year, has an online access to watch speakers and participate in events virtually for support and connection.

Community and virtual support together help Indianapolis residents feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout their skin-health journey.

No referral required! You can contact AndHealth directly to schedule your appointment. This eliminates delays and barriers that often prevent people from getting timely dermatology care.

While same-day appointments depend on availability, AndHealth provides anytime messaging with your care team between visits. During flares, you can text your provider team immediately for guidance, medication adjustments, or urgent care coordination if needed.

For severe flares, contact your AndHealth care team through anytime messaging first. If you need immediate medical attention, your nearest emergency department is available 24/7. Always inform them you’re an AndHealth patient so they can coordinate with your care team.
